Our trekking journey would end in Syabrubesi. We would still continue our trip back to Kathmandu. In Kathmandu, we would explore cultural heritage sites. We would still have fun in Kathmandu and share our real experience back from the Langtang Valley trek.
Best time to visit Langtang
As Langtang region trail is mostly around Langtang National Park Circuit, it is quite renowned for the majestic birds Danphe (Himalayan Monal) including over 250 bird species and more than 46 mammal species including endangered snow leopard, himalayan black bear and red panda. Normally, it's ideal to visit Langtang valley trek during Autumn and Spring as these are the best time of the year to explore mountains and also animal sightings. However, March till May is undoubtedly the best for Rhododendron blooming and high numbers of birds and butterfly sightings.
September till November is another great time to visit Langtang trail. During the autumn, especially October and November, there is a high probability of animal sightings. This season also provides the best view of the mountain ranges and surrounding landscape because of the clear skies.
Winter is extremely cold on the higher altitudes if you are intending to visit Kyangjin Ri (4300m) or Cherko Ri (4984m) but this season can also be manageable if you have proper equipment. The accommodation facilities are quite good until Kyangjin Village in Langtang region has decent accommodation all year around. However, most of the local tour operators and tourism consultants do not recommend the monsoon as they have a reason for it. The monsoon is affected by potential road blocks and landslides - not only in the trekking routes but also on the multiple sections of the highways. But it is always the best approach to consult your travel advisor before visiting Nepal especially for trekking and expedition activities.
Essential items to carry
Langtang region may not demand many extra items to carry during the trek but it does require some essential items. If we are intending to visit the highest point of 4984m to Cherko RI, some of the items are the most. We suggest our fellow trekkers to bring highly essential items no matter whichever season you are travelling. The items can range from clothing accessories to trekking gears. We advise you to equip yourself with good hiking boots, a pair of down jacket, multiple warm layers of clothing, thermals, hats, sun protection cream and polarized glasses. Hats can become quite handy to cover your forehead especially during mid-afternoon hike. We also sincerely suggest bringing crampons for your hiking boots in winter if you are intending to reach till Cherko Ri (4984m) or Kyangjin Ri (4300m).
We also need to realize that due to higher elevation, there might be a significant drop on the oxygen density level. As we elevate to the maximum altitude of 4984m above sea level, the reduced oxygen might be experienced and can cause altitude sickness. Due to these scenarios, we sincerely suggest the visitors to acclimatize properly and remain hydrated with warm water while staying in the higher altitude above 2500 metres. Hence, we suggest our clients bring their own hot water bottle with you.
We would also suggest bringing cash for your personal expenses which is not covered by the Langtang Valley trekking package. As there is less connectivity of mobile devices and no access to ATMs, your local trekking planner suggests you carry cash to cover your personal expenses like souvenirs or something of your interest.
