If you are travelling from Kathmandu, you have multiple options to reach Muktinath. The quickest option would be to take a 25 minutes flight from Kathmandu to Pokhara and a further 20-25 minutes flight from Pokhara to Jomsom. You can also take a 6-7 hours road transport from Kathmandu to Pokhara and then an early morning flight from Pokhara to Jomsom.

From Pokhara,  you can also take road transport to Muktinath. The travel time is an 8-10 hours adventurous journey till Jomsom and further 2 hours journey to Muktinath. If you feel like having a personalized helicopter tour, those options are also available. You can communicate with flight companies or even the local tour operators.

For a memorable trip to Muktinath, you also need to consider the best time to visit. Except in the peak monsoon and winter season, every other season can be applicable for you. July and August are the peak months for monsoon which you need to avoid. In addition to that, peak winter months from December till February might also be very harsh weather for you. Mostly for Himalayan escape, Spring and Autumn are the most favourable no matter where you travel around Nepal. That's why these are considered the peak influx of international and domestic tourists around the region.

For your memorable trip, both spring and autumn caters to lush greenery and best hiking experience around the region. The spring season normally lies in the month of March till the end of May whereas autumn lasts from September till mid-November. Both seasons also favours the trekkers and tourists for best visibility. However, two distinct scenarios differentiate these seasons. If you are mesmerized by Rhododendron flowers blooming during your entire trip, Spring would be quite interesting for you. But if you are into lively cultural exploration, Autumn would be quite fascinating for you as there are numerous festivals around these months of September till mid-November. These months are also quite popular for pilgrimage among Buddhist and Hindus alike.

The maximum altitude can range from 3710 metres to 3800 metres above sea level. The altitude is also quite high with only 70% of Oxygen level compared to the sea level range, this region is quite prone for high altitude sickness because of thin air. Due to reduced oxygen level, we suggest the visitors acclimatize properly.

Now regarding the items that we need to carry - it would depend on the season and specific weather condition. Some of the items that would be highly essential would be - a backpack with warm layered clothing (down jacket, thermals, hiking boots, sun protection like sunglasses, sunscreen cream, hat and so on, personal medication (if any) and first aid kit. It is also advisable to always carry cash in this type of region including water bottles. As the weather is quite unpredictable around Mustang and Muktinath region, it is always handy to take the above-mentioned essential items regardless of any type of season.

After the arrival of online booking platforms, the cost remains similar for both domestic and foreign tourists alike. Nowadays, even offline tour operators are charging similar rates. However, charges might be different according to room and service types. Moreover, there are also several conservation permit charges which might differ from foreign and domestic tourists.

For international tourists taking a flight from Kathmandu to Pokhara would take you around $85 to $105 USD. If you prefer to take a flight from Pokhara to Jomsom as well, it would cost you an additional $150 to $200 USD. All these are one-way flights.

If you choose to hire a private jeep from Pokhara to Muktinath, the cost can range from NPR 32,000 to NPR 48,000 for a 2-3 days trip. The public vehicle can range from NPR 1200 to NPR 1800 from Kathmandu to Pokhara, whereas the cost ranges from NPR 1100 - NPR 1300 from Pokhara to Jomsom. You would need an additional NPR 500 to NPR 700 from either a shared jeep or bus from Jomsom to the final destination Muktinath. 

Now as we mentioned you also need a permit for Muktinath as it lies in the Annapurna Conservation area. For ACAP fee, you would need NPR 3000 which would generally be valid for one month as a single entry. Regarding hotels in Kathmandu, Pokhara and Muktinath; it really depends on the type of stay and services you prefer. The hotel stays normally range from NPR 1500 to NPR 6000, although there is no such limit for the prices.
